Google’s Pixel Tablet – a comeback to the tablet form factor.

It was initially announced at Google I/O 2022. Then, with the Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold, we get a complete unveiling at I/O 2023. The Pixel Tablet is now available for purchase. The gadget, which functions as both a tablet and a smart display, was released on June 20.

Even the Pixel Tablet received a 7.5 out of 10 rating in our assessment. It’s the first tablet from Google in a while, and although we liked the idea of a tablet that can switch to a smart display when not in use, we felt that Google didn’t quite execute the concept well enough. If you have the time, read our complete Google Pixel Tablet review, but if you’re seeking for the essential details, you can find them all here.

Google Pixel Tablet: Design and display

An 11-inch tablet with a fairly basic design is the Google Pixel Tablet. Porcelain (white), Rose (pink), and Hazel (greenish grey) are the three colors available. The display bezels of the Porcelain and Rose models are white, whereas the Hazel models are black.

The tablet has a 10.95-inch, 2,560 x 1,600 LCD panel for its display. The tablet’s intended use case—basically constantly turning the display off—isn’t really compatible with OLED technology because it is susceptible to image burn-in when showing static elements for extended periods of time. LCD screens can’t match the perfect black levels and high contrast of OLED displays.

The tablet’s back is constructed of aluminium and has a covering that Google refers to as nano-ceramic on top, which should make it more textured and easier to hold. In terms of aesthetics, the understated design resembles the Pixel 5 more than the more recent, outspoken Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series.

Every Pixel Tablet also has a charging speaker dock that matches its tablet’s colour and closely resembles the base of current Nest Hub devices. In addition to allowing certain smart display-like capabilities, such as Google Photos slideshow screensavers and Google Home device settings accessible from the lock screen, the tablet may be magnetically connected to the dock both to charge and to enhance its audio output.

Google Pixel Tablet: Specs

The Pixel Tablet appears to have lots of capabilities. The tablet should be able to do almost everything you’d want to do on it thanks to the Tensor G2 processor (the same one used in Google’s Pixel 7 phones) and eight gigabytes of RAM.

Other noteworthy features include an 8MP camera on the tablet’s front and back, 128 or 256GB of storage capacity (there isn’t an SD card port, of course), and a 27 watt-hour battery that Google claims should last the tablet for 12 hours of continuous usage.

Google Pixel Tablet: Software

Google’s Pixel-flavored version of Android 13 is preinstalled on the Pixel Tablet. For a solid tablet experience, Google claims to have worked with top software developers, listing examples like Spotify, Disney+, and Minecraft as having been tailored for the Pixel Tablet.

The tablet enters what Google calls Hub Mode when docked, which makes certain Nest Hub-like features available. The Pixel Tablet can display picture slideshows, respond to Hey Google voice queries, manage smart home appliances, and even stream music and videos via Google Cast when docked.
