Every month, new smartphones are released, but we hardly ever get to see any innovative technology that truly impresses us. Currently, many top tech companies including Motorola, Oppo, Honor, and others displayed some interesting devices that not only fold but also roll at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2023), the largest tech exhibition in the world taking place in Barcelona.
That’s accurate. Foldables dominated MWC 2023, both in laptops and phones. In actuality, numerous brands made their debuts in the foldable market. At the 2023 Mobile World Congress, Tecno, a smartphone company known for its affordable models, unveiled the world’s first foldable phone. The good news is that it will be affordable in India, costing Rs. 89,999.
Lenovo Rizr
Foldable and flip phones have been introduced thus far. The Motorola Rizr, a rollable phone, is now available. As soon as you launch specific apps, its display begins to rotate automatically. For instance, if you open YouTube and hold the phone horizontally, the display will automatically extend, and if you open Gmail to type an email, the screen will easily roll up to provide more room. Motorola created this rollable display based on the use scenarios. It looks amazing and has a practical form factor. Our initial thoughts are detailed here.
Oppo Find N2
The Oppo Find N2 was undoubtedly the most practical foldable phone on show at MWC 2023. It has a 5.5-inch AMOLED display, which you might think is a little panel, but it works perfectly and is manageable for all one-handed tasks like messaging and browsing. It unfolds to reveal a larger 7.1-inch display. This folding phone’s implementation and hinge both appear excellent.
Phantom V Fold by Tecno
The Tecno Phantom V Fold, which was unveiled by Tecno and is now available in India for a starting price of Rs 89,999, is the company’s first foldable phone. To put it simply, it is a sizable folding phone. When unfurled and opened to a huge 7.85-inch display, it almost resembles a tablet. At the back, there are three cameras, and there are also circular cameras. What’s even more intriguing is that Tecno has managed to keep the cost of its first-ever folding phone quite low.
Honor Magic Vs
The Magic Vs, a foldable phone from Honor, was also on display. The gadget appears to be very promising. It has a 6.4-inch AMOLED display that makes it appear like a typical phone, but when you unfold it, the screen enlarges to a huge 7.9-inch AMOLED display. Nevertheless, it won’t be introduced in India because Honor no longer sells its phones there. Our initial thoughts are detailed here.
Lenovo’s rollable laptop
Along with foldable phones, a Lenovo rollable laptop also attracted my eye. The best feature of this portable laptop is that, although having a standard appearance, its display can be expanded by pressing a button on the side. The display slides up to reveal a 15.3-inch portrait-style display.
