The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) marked its first anniversary today, celebrating a remarkable year of achievements that have firmly established it as a premier destination for the arts in India and globally. Since its inauguration in 2023, the Centre has welcomed over one million visitors and hosted an astounding 700 shows across its five world-class venues, showcasing the talents of over 670 artists and presenting four landmark visual art exhibits.
Throughout this milestone year, NMACC has hosted iconic international acts and exhibits, including the highly anticipated debuts of beloved Broadway and West End productions in India. The Centre’s commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural legacy was evident through initiatives like ‘SWADESH by Reliance Foundation,’ which shone a spotlight on diverse art forms from across the vast expanse of the country.
The Grand Theatre, NMACC’s crown jewel, hosted exclusive anniversary programming befitting the occasion, featuring spellbinding performances by renowned artists such as Amit Trivedi, Kaushiki Chakraborty, the composer duo Ajay-Atul, and singer-songwriter Aditya Gadhvi. These captivating shows celebrated the depth and diversity of Indian music and performing arts.
The Art House, NMACC’s cutting-edge gallery space, opened its doors to ‘Liminal Gaps,’ a thought-provoking exhibition showcasing immersive installations from some of India’s most celebrated contemporary artists. Curated by Mafalda Millies Kahane and Roya Sachs, with executive production by Elizabeth Edelman Sachs of TRIADIC, this exhibition marked a significant milestone as the Centre’s first to exclusively showcase the works of Indian artists, underscoring its commitment to nurturing and promoting homegrown talent.
Founder and Chairperson Nita Ambani expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming support that NMACC has received from audiences and artists alike, and pledged to continue showcasing the best of India and the world in the years to come. “It is with a deep sense of pride, joy, and gratitude that we celebrate the first anniversary of our Cultural Centre,” she said. “In the past year at NMACC, over a million audiences have witnessed blockbuster Indian theatricals, breathtaking global performances, stunning artworks, and traditional handicrafts from all over India. We are grateful for the love and support of our audience, and the trust and enthusiasm of our artists. It’s been an extraordinary year of firsts, showcasing the best of India and the world. And our journey has only just begun!”
Looking ahead, NMACC has an exciting lineup of events in store, including the highly anticipated ‘Matilda the Musical’ by The Royal Shakespeare Company, which promises to be a theatrical extravaganza for audiences of all ages. Additionally, the Centre will play host to a performance by the renowned Bharatanatyam exponent Padma Shri Shobana and her troupe, further reinforcing its commitment to celebrating and promoting India’s classical dance traditions.
As NMACC embarks on its second year, it remains steadfast in its mission to serve as a beacon of artistic excellence, fostering cultural exchange, and providing a platform for both Indian and international artists to showcase their talents to a global audience.
