In June 2023, a rumor spread on Twitter and other social media platforms claiming that a video game controller was used to drive a lost submersible destined to explore the RMS Titanic’s deep-sea ruins. The latter collided with an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean on April 14, 1912, and sank the next morning, killing around 1,500 passengers.
We quickly discovered evidence that proved this rumour to be genuine throughout our investigation.
The Missing Titanic Submarine
This narrative began in the early morning hours of June 18, when an OceanGate Expeditions submersible began its travel to the ocean below to survey the Titanic debris. There were five persons on board.
OceanGate’s official website promised the option to “explore the Titanic” for a fee beginning at $250,000 per person. The package featured an eight-day and seven-night cruise on a ship.
However, the submersible and all its travelers did not resurface at the ocean’s surface for their anticipated return hours later.
As of June 20, rescue attempts were ongoing to locate and save the sub and its people. The individuals onboard had a 96-hour supply of oxygen that was set to expire on June 22.

Regarding the video game controller rumour, images of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush holding one of these gadgets were released on Twitter.
A tweet from a user who discovered that the sub was controlled by a Logitech F710 Wireless PC Gamepad rather than an Xbox gaming controller or a PlayStation controller.
