Elon Musk confirms his scheduled trip to India is delayed but looks forward to visiting it later this year.
Musk was slated to meet PM Narendra Modi on April 22 in the first half and startup founders at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. However, he has postponed his visit, citing “very heavy” obligations at Tesla Inc.
The decision to postpone the India trip follows a turbulent week for Tesla. Musk announced job cuts of over 10% of its global workforce and the exit of top executives. Tesla also intends to resubmit its $56 billion compensation plan for Musk after a court nullified the package earlier this year.
Additionally, Tesla recalled 3,900 Cybertrucks to fix accelerator pedal issues and slashed prices by $2,000 on its popular models in the US, following sluggish first-quarter sales and high inventory levels.
Despite the postponement, Musk expressed his intention to visit India later this year. His meeting with space tech startups, where he was expected to visit stalls and speak to top executives about their innovations and offerings, has been canceled.
Startups like Skyroot Aerospace, Dhruva Space, Piersight, Digantara, Satsure (and its subsidiary KaleidEO), and GalaxEye were scheduled to showcase their technologies to the SpaceX chief during the planned visit.
While Musk’s India visit has been delayed, the tech mogul aims to reschedule his trip, potentially later this year, amidst his “very heavy” obligations at Tesla.
