In a heartwarming announcement on Sunday, fast bowler Mohammad Amir revealed his decision to end his retirement, aiming to represent Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled in the US and West Indies this June. Amir, who had bid adieu to international cricket towards the end of 2020, shared his aspirations following the Pakistan Cricket Board’s unveiling of a new seven-member selection panel, featuring four former Test cricketers.

“I still dream to play for Pakistan!,” Amir conveyed on X (formerly Twitter). “Life brings us to points where reconsidering our decisions becomes inevitable. Following some constructive discussions with the PCB, where they graciously emphasized my significance and potential contribution to the team, and after deliberation with my family and well-wishers, I announce my availability for the upcoming T20 WC.”

Expressing his devotion to his country, Amir affirmed, “I want to do this for my country as it precedes my personal choices. Representing Pakistan and serving my nation has always been, and will remain, my ultimate ambition [sic].”

Amir, who made a sensational debut on the international stage at the tender age of 17, boasts an impressive record of 50 T20Is since his inaugural match in 2009. Over the years, he has scalped 59 wickets with a commendable economy rate of 7.02. His recent stellar performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he bagged 10 wickets in 9 matches for Quetta Gladiators, have further solidified his resolve to don the green jersey once again and make his country proud on the global stage.
